David Distler

Principal

Principal David Distler is a beloved fixture at Eisenberg Elementary School, fondly called “Berg Nation.” He joined the Colonial School District more than 26 years ago as a teacher at Pleasantville Elementary. Before taking his current position, he was a student advisor and assistant principal at several district schools. With a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education from Millersville University and Master’s degrees in School Leadership and Special Education from Wilmington University, Distler finds daily motivation in this quote:

“Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.”
― Rita Pierson

Dave is a father to 4 children.  Brianna, Cole, Sam and Jack.

Educators run in Distler’s family. His wife is an elementary school teacher in Smyrna, his daughter teaches at Southern Elementary, and his son is studying at Wilmington University with aspirations to also become an elementary school teacher.  In his spare time, Distler coaches a Pop Warner football team and coaches wrestling in Smyrna.  He is a huge Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Wrestling fan.

Kristina Lamia

Assistant Principal

Assistant Principal Kristina Lamia is a proud first-generation college student who decided to become an educator for very personal reasons saying, “My younger sister has a learning disability. Two things always stood out to me about her educational journey- the incredible teachers she had who inspired her to do her best and truly included my parents as partners in my sister’s education and the teachers who made my sister feel different from the other kids and did not value my parents as partners. I knew then that I wanted to provide all students with learning opportunities that met their individual needs and ensure my students’ families felt like valued partners in their children’s education.” Lamia earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from West Chester University and a Master’s from American College of Education. She is currently a doctoral candidate at American College of Education.   This new addition to Berg Nation she says “As an educator and leader, it is my mission to make students and families feel valued and respected for the wonderful individuals they are!”
